Once again a terrible accident took place in a cotton mill. Will the use of young children in these factories never stop, or is it just too much to ask for?
It happened once again. For the fourth time this month a young lad was once brutally killed while trying to fix a broken stick inside the machinery. It all happened when he tried to reach the stick between all the cotton with the machinery still going. The poor little lad got unlucky and his hand got caught in all the cotton that dragged him into the machine. The little boy didn't stand a chance. He was crushed and smashed several times before someone turned the machinery off.
Hundreds of complains are now flowing to the owner of the cotton mill and the mayor. The owner himself claims that it was just the young lad's own fault when he got caught in the cotton. The only problem with this statement is that it has now happened too many of these and people have started to react. Even the Queen is getting tired of it saying that something has to be done. The politicians are hoping that a new law that will be preventing child work soon will come. The mayor has been on meetings the whole day, in a desperate hope trying to turn the people's anger away from him. The mayor was the one who promised that this wouldn't happen again in the future. He said this when a poor young lad was killed at the same fabric not a long time ago just like all the other “accidents” the last year. The mayor was also the one that promised that child working should be illegal about 3 weeks ago. Apparently he hasn't finished this plan. It has just been empty words, and this is exactly why the citizens have gotten so angry. The mayor has in his own self defense gone out in public with an excuse that transfer the blame to the political system, saying that it's to slow. “We have now decided that a new law will be seriously discussed at a new meeting next week”, the mayor promised again.
The mayor's last statement has caused mixed feelings, but most of them positive. A spokesman for the Queen is now saying that this change actually will come. And it will even come earlier than first planned. “The change will come up as vote for the politicians already tomorrow and I'm pretty sure everyone will vote for it”, said a hopeful spokesman.
However, some people are not yet satisfied. They are disbelieving the mayor's promise. “He has already promised this change way too many times, so I strongly doubt that a new change will come now. He probably just waits with the change until everyone has forgotten all about it.”
Will the mayor really hold his promise this time or is it just another lie? Well, the only thing remaining now is just to hope and see if he really keeps his promise.
